Tony Lentino, the city's cultural arts and special events programming manager, put it simply when the season was announced: "the energy, enthusiasm and support from our community reminded us how meaningful this venue is to Elgin." Thirteen performances make up the full slate, with tickets running $26 to $57.50 and free parking at the venue, located at 45 Symphony Way just off I-90.

Where to Eat Before or After a Show
A night out downtown works better with somewhere to eat on either end of it, and a couple of independently owned spots make that easier than it used to be. As the Daily Herald reported, El Patio, an upscale Mexican restaurant at 60 S. Grove Avenue, took over a building that dates to around 1910 and originally served as Elgin's first theater. The dining room keeps some of that old structure visible, including a brick wall the owners turned into a series of black-light murals, and the restaurant has a patio that plays directly into its name. It's owned by three longtime friends, Juan Guerrero, Sergio Lopez, and Hebert Garcia, all originally from Mexico, who took over the space after its previous tenant, Billy Bricks Pizza, left abruptly.
For something lower-key before a matinee or a Saturday market run, Mill Creek Bagel Company started as a fixture at local farmers markets and neighborhood pop-ups before opening a small brick-and-mortar shop in west Elgin, hand-rolling and boiling every bagel rather than running them through a machine. It's a small space, more suited to a quick stop than a sit-down meal, but it's the kind of place that grew directly out of the same market culture the Downtown Elgin Market represents.
The investment isn't limited to downtown proper, either. On Randall Road, the Elgin Planning and Zoning Commission signed off earlier this year on plans for Tulsi Indian Cuisine and Events, a restaurant and banquet hall proposed for the space that used to house Golden Corral before it closed. The plan calls for a full-service restaurant along with banquet rooms that could host up to 244 guests for weddings or corporate events, a sign that new dining investment in Elgin isn't confined to the blocks immediately around the Hemmens.

None of this changes anything about home values or market conditions. What it changes is the shape of an ordinary week in Elgin between now and the holidays.
